Call for submissions: Disability and Reproductive Justice
Despite growing literature from within the disability and queer movements around the world, writings are still limited in our region and in our language. As a group that works on movement building around reproductive justice, we want the rights and voices of the differently-abled to be normalized as integral to any work towards meaningful change, as well as to the shaping of our political discourse and understanding of discrimination. This is especially lacking in the field of reproductive and sexual health and rights, in which the systemic erasure/or demonization of differently-abled people’s experiences with sexuality continues till the day.
This is why we are calling for writing and visual submissions on disability and reproductive justice in both Arabic and English. We also welcome translations of important texts into Arabic.
Suggested topics to tackle or to be inspired by:
- Language and disability: evolution and discussions on terminology, contextualizing disability related concepts
- Disability and sexuality: misconceptions, pleasure, navigating relationships and sex, desire, fetishizing disability
- Movement building on disability in the South West Asian and North African region
- Israeli occupation state policies on maiming Palestinians
- Access to reproductive and sexual health for differently-abled people
- The queer and crip movement worldwide and/or in the region
- Family making
- Labour rights and disability
- Sexual abuse of differently-abled bodies
- Inclusivity and accessibility within queer/SRHR/feminist movements
*We specifically encourage disabled/differently-abled contributors to participate.
